. - Uriel Chaim Goldberg

March 16, 1951-September 29, 2025

Uriel Chaim Goldberg was born on March 16, 1951 in Haifa, Israel, the only child of Natan Goldberg and Evi Goldberg nee Neufeld. His parents met in Israel after having survived Hitler's labor and death camps during WW2. Before attending university, he served 3 years in the Israeli army as an Air Traffic Controller. He attended the Technion in Haifa, earning his Bachelor Degree in Engineering. From there, Uri was accepted to Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio where he earned his Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and after working a short time, he entered the PhD program at Case Western earning his PhD in Physics. In 1984, Uri began his career as a Turbulence Modeler at Rockwell Science Center in Thousand Oaks and worked there until 1995 when it became apparent that layoffs were coming. He spent a year at UMIST before being hired at Metacomp Technologies, Inc. in 1996 until he left in 2018 due to illness.

Uri was well respected in the field of Computational Fluid Dynamics and Turbulence Modeling. He had almost 100 publications and presented many of those papers at worldwide conferences. He was very proud that one of his turbulence models was the 7th to be listed on the NASA website for use by their engineers. Comments from colleagues include, "I still have fond memories.....his relentless efforts to improve the state of the art in a subject which very few understood"and "integrity and discipline and a remarkable insight into modeling turbulence. Not many could achieve what he created."

A common theme when anyone talked about Uri whether it was friends or family was his quick witted humor. Someone once said, "you know, Uri is a very funny guy, but you have to pay attention".

In addition to his passion for the sciences, he had a great love of orchestral music with a vast collection of his favorite works. He could listen to a few notes and name the composer and the opus number. He attended numerous concerts annually. He was an accomplished chess player.

Uri is survived by Margaret, his wife of 35 years, his children, Dena, Abigail, and David and his stepson, Aaron and granddaughter, Eliana Goldberg and Step grandchildren Emma , Ekko and Apollo Robin.
