It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Josefina Tiongco-Castillo Balingit, 82, who died peacefully after a three-year battle with cancer on August 27, 2025 in Coronado, California.
Born in the Philippines, Josefina grew up in Quezon City, and graduated from Mapua Institute of Technology with a Business Administration degree. She was a certified public accountant and a professor at Mapua, teaching business and accounting classes.
After moving to the United States in 1973, she dedicated herself selflessly to her family and the upbringing of her sons, her niece and nephews, and her grandchildren.
Known to her niece and nephews as "Tita Nene" and to her grandchildren as "Lola," Josefina cherished every moment spent with her family.
Josefina was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Balingit; parents, Lourdes and Mariano Castillo; sister, Jane Castillo; sister in-law, Corazon Castillo; and brothers-in-law, Richard and Jimmy. She leaves behind a loving family who will miss her dearly, including her sons Lawrence Balingit (Jennifer Haymore) and Mitchell Balingit (Jennifer Clary); siblings Jose Castillo, Jorge Castillo, Julieta Hayashi (Shig), Joy Trujillo (Eloi, Cindy, Randy), and Jasmin Mapplethorpe; grandchildren Alexander, Nicholas, Natasha, Johanna, and Katherine; and special nieces and nephews Omar (Aileen, Cole, Leia), Lourdes, Kris, and Ashley (Mara, Ari, Eli).
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 9th at 1:00 pm at St. Jude's Catholic Church, Westlake Village, CA. The burial service will follow at Pierce Brothers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor her memory by sharing a meal with loved ones and remembering her kindness and laughter.
