August 12, 1930 - March 30, 2026
Clara Isabel Ferro passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Monday, March 30, 2026. She was 95 years old. Her husband of over 70 years, Joseph John Ferro, 98 years old, preceded her in death by three years. They were both long-time residents of Thousand Oaks having moved to the community in 1963 to raise a family and seek employment in nursing and the aerospace industry.
Clara and Joseph raised four children together, daughter, Irene Ferro, son Vincent Ferro, daughter, Victoria Cunha and daughter, Patricia Harmon. Clara had four grandchildren and three great grandchildren and delighted in their visits.
Born in Anton Chico, New Mexico on August 12, 1930, to Frank G. Madrid and Irene Marquez Madrid she was the second child in a family of seven children. Clara was raised in Bernalillo, New Mexico, a charming farming community nestled between the Rio Grande and the Sandia Mountains halfway between Albuquerque and Santa Fe.
Her childhood was marked by the Great Depression; however, her father was fortunate to have steady employment as an inspector with the Federal Farm Bureau. Along with her mother and sisters, Clara labored in a well-tended Victory Garden during WWII and therefore her family always had money to put food on the table and shop for other necessities to support their family of nine. Family and friends would often gather at the Madrid home and participated in traditional New Mexico style holiday celebrations, family events and harvest time activities.
Following the war, Clara enrolled in the Regina School of Nursing in Albuquerque, earning her RN degree in 1952. She met the love of her life, Joseph Ferro, at a dance while in her final year of school and the two were married a year after graduation on February 14, 1953.
They moved to California shortly after their wedding and, in addition to raising four children, Clara worked at several local hospitals in various capacities and spent 15 years as a public health nurse for the county of Ventura.
Clara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She often enjoyed gardening, dancing and hosting parties for her family on all occasions. She has one surviving brother, Marcos Madrid who resides with his wife Elizabeth in Corrales, New Mexico.
